A young woman has tragically died after taking unwell on a beautiful Scot beach.
The alarm was raised with police in the early hours of Sunday morning after the 25-year-old was found on St Ninian’s beach, near Lerwick, in Shetland.
She was rushed to hospital for treatment but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances however Police Scotland have confirmed that they are investigating.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We were made aware of the sudden death of a 25-year-old woman around 6.40am on Sunday, 11 July, on Shetland.
"The woman had taken unwell at St Ninian's beach and was pronounced dead at hospital.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
The picturesque beach has won numerous awards throughout recent years.
