Young woman dead and driver seriously injured after car ploughs into tree on busy Scots road

A young woman has tragically died after the car she was travelling in left the road and smashed into a tree.

The 23-year-old was a passenger inside the blue Vauxhall Corsa which was driving eastbound on the A94 Coupar Angus to Forfar Road on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to the scene, near Ardler, at around 5.15pm but she was pronounced dead at the roadside a short time later.

The 29-year-old driver was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries.

A police investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash has been launched with officers appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.

Sergeant Ewan Pearce, of Tayside’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at this time.

“We are conducting extensive enquiries into the circumstances of this incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“If you were in the area and witnessed the crash, or have any potential dashcam footage which could assist our investigation, please call police on 101, quoting incident 2992 of 22 August.”
