Young woman, 29, tragically dies after fatal late night blaze at Edinburgh flat

A young woman has tragically after after a blaze broke out late last night in an Edinburgh flat.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the fire on Oxgangs Park shortly after midnight on Saturday, November 14.

A 29-year-old woman was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Despite medics best efforts to save her, she sadly pronounced dead a short time later, reports the Daily Record.

A 40-year-old, who was also in the flat at the time fire, was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been released.

While the fire is not being treated as suspicious, police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to investigate what caused the fatal blaze.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “About 12.10 am on Saturday, 14 November, 2020, police and emergency services were called following the report of a fire in a flat in Oxgangs Park, Edinburgh.

"The occupants from the flat, a 29-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, were taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where the woman died a short time later.

“The man has since been released from hospital.

"The fire is being treated as non-suspicious and enquiries are continuing."

Kenny Rogers, SFRS Local Senior Officer for Edinburgh, said: “We were alerted to reports of a house fire at Oxgangs Park in Edinburgh at midnight on Saturday, November 14.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire.

"Two casualties were helped from the building by firefighters before being taken to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary by paramedics.

"Very sadly a female casualty later passed away.

"The male casualty has since been released from hospital.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected at this time."
