Young Wishaw and Motherwell athletes in fine form despite Covid set-backs

Young athletes from Wishaw and Motherwell produced some personal best displays for Victoria Park City of Glasgow Athletic Club in recent weeks.

The quartet of Aleshia O’Connor, Rebecca McCaffrey, Ava Mitchell and Hannah McDermott have all been in fine form and travelled to events at home and down south to gain much appreciated competition experience last month, in a season which has seen a host of events cancelled due to the impact of Covid 19.

Despite lockdown, all the youngsters have trained throughout and managed to gain massive personal best performances in meetings at Meadowmill and Trafford in October.

The group, who are training for Combined Events between Wishaw, the Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell and Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, produced the following results:

Aleshia O’Connor – 70m Hurdles 12.5secs (PB); Long Jump 4.88 (a massive PB, moving up the rankings to the best in Scotland and the UK outdoors); Shot Putt 6.03m (PB).

Rebecca McCaffrey – 60m 8.95secs (PB); 150m – 21.97secs (PB).

Ava Mitchell – 70m hurdles 12.2secs (PB); 60m 9.22secs (PB); Shot put 7.53m (PB)

Hannah McDermott – 70m Hurdles 12.5secs (PB); 100m 14.30secs (PB); 150m 21.12secs (PB); High Jump 1.36m (PB); Long Jump 4.43m (PB); Shot Put 7.57m (PB).
