Young whites star backed to make the step up by ex Leeds United forward

Former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan believes Whites youngster Mateusz Bogusz will play a “big part” for the Elland Road club this season.

The 17-year-old has impressed for the club's Academy side and has already featured in four matchday squads as an unused substitute, including in the play-off semi-finals against Derby County last season.

And Whelan, a boyhood Leeds fan, believes Bogusz, who was a part of the Whites squad which travelled to Australia for games against Manchester United and Western Sydney Warriors, has what it takes to make the step up.

“He’s been a midfield player who’s been quietly coming through the ranks and showing extreme quality," the former forward told Football Insider.

"He’s a player who can step up to the mark in the Championship this season and I believe we’ll be seeing a lot more of him this campaign.

“He has got really good feet, technically he’s very, very good, and you can see that he’s got a delightful strike on him with the goal that he scored. I would not be surprised at all if he made a breakthrough like the other young lads did last season.

“He’s a real prospect for the future and I think he might have a big part to play this campaign.”
