A young West Belfast golfer is preparing for the trip of a lifetime after clinching a place at the US Kids World Championship at Pinehurst.
Adam Doherty (9) has enjoyed a successful year after winning a Spring Tour Order of Merit and finished tied for seventh at the recent European Championships in Scotland.
The Balmoral Golf Club member has emerged as rising star of golf in Northern Ireland, and now he is ready to test his talent on the other side of the Atlantic.
"Adam has been playing golf since he was six-and-a-half-years old, so he was a bit of a late starter," said mum, Anna Maria.
"Golf runs in the family and it is something he just loves.
"He has been with PGA professional Peter Martin at Colin Glen since day one and we are just so proud of how well Adam has been doing."
Despite only being nine years of age, Adam plays off the men's tees and has a handicap of 18.
He will take on some of the best young golfers in the world when he travels to the United States later this summer.
"He can't wait," added Anna Maria.
"The tournament is from August 1-3 at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
"We haven't had long to prepare for the trip, and we have to fund it ourselves. There is a lot of preparation that has to go into just getting there.
"But this is a chance of a lifetime for Adam so we want to try and pull out all the stops to get him there."
The Doherty family have launched a Crowdfunding page to try and raise £1,000 to go towards travelling and accommodation costs.
They are also hosting a special fundraising event at Balmoral Golf Club on Sunday, June 30.
Costing £25 for non-members and £10 for members of Balmoral, there will be fantastic prizes to win on the day and also a raffle and hole-in-one prize.
