A young van driver has tragically died after being involved in a horror crash with a tractor in North Lanarkshire.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the B7066 Glasgow and Edinburgh Road, near Newhouse, at around 9.35am on Monday, April 12.
A black Vauxhall combo van had collided with a green CLAAS tractor that was pulling a red trailer at the time of the incident.
A second tractor, a green and yellow John Deer machine, was also travelling in the area at the time of the collision but was not involved in the smash.
Police and paramedics swiftly arrived on scene but the 28-year-old was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.
Neither tractor driver was injured however the man behind the wheel of the CLAAS vehicle was arrested and released pending further enquiries.
The road was closed for approximately eight hours before being reopened at around 5.30pm.
Investigators are keen to speak to members of the public who may have been travelling in the area around the time of the incident.
Sergeant Craig McDonald from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit based in Motherwell, said: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this crash.
“Our investigation into how the crash happened is ongoing and to assist with that I’d ask anyone that may have witnessed the crash, or the vehicles beforehand, to get in touch with police.
“I would appeal to drivers with dash cam who were in the area around the time of the collision to check their systems for any relevant footage which may be of assistance.”
