Young thugs smash Shawlands restaurant door with traffic cone as chefs work in kitchen

A group of young thugs threw a traffic cone through the glass door of a Shawlands restaurant while chefs were busy cooking in the kitchen.

Staff from Buongiorno Bistro Italiano on Pollokshaws Road were busy cooking takeaway food when they heard the glass shatter.

A bystander told them that a group of youngsters had put in the window with a nearby cone around 8pm on Monday (February 15).

The restaurant does not have CCTV and neither the bystander nor chefs got a clear look at the culprits, who ran in the other direction from Shawlands Cross.

Bosses at the bistro told Glasgow Live it was the "worst possible time for this to have happened".

The restaurant was taken over by the current staff in 2019 and has been working as a takeaway cafe and restaurant during the pandemic. It is popular with Shawlands locals, who wrote they were devastated at the vandalism.

Mhairi-Clair Jennow wrote: "Hope they get caught. Great shop you have."

Many offered to donate to help pay for the repair, however bosses at the restaurant say they don't want their customers to pay for the work of the vandals.
