Young stranger leaves mum in tears after paying for Tesco Christmas shop

A mum was left in tears after a kind stranger stepped in to pay for her Christmas shopping when her pin became locked in Tesco.

Paula Fletcher, from Liverpool, reached the checkout at Tesco only to find out the transaction would not go through.

The 46-year-old was picking up her last  Christmas  bits last Thursday including Brussel sprouts, chocolates and Yankee candles for presents.

She had the £69 needed for the shopping - but when she got to the till her pin became blocked and she was unable to pay.

While Paula ran out a kind 'young girl' stepped in to pay, she told the Liverpool Echo.

The cashier at the Park Road Tesco left a note on her receipt (Liverpool Echo)

Paula said: "I went downstairs to unblock it but when I came back the girl had paid.

"I was overwhelmed. I had to sit down and I was crying.

"I think everyone has just had one of those years haven’t they where it’s been rubbish."

Paula said the young girl was behind her in the queue and had on a red jumper.

The cashier told Paula they thought the deed was linked to the new twelve days of Christmas kindness craze, that is seeing people do good things for strangers in the run up to December 25.

Paula posted the tale to Facebook in the hopes of tracking down the person who did the good deed and to thank her.

Her post said: "I just want to thank the beautiful young lady that paid for my shopping at park road Tesco…

"I don’t know who you are, but I can’t thank you enough. You are one special person."

The post was shared on Facebook, where people were moved by the spirit of generosity during a tough Christmas period.

Teresa O'Connell said: "That’s lovely that I heard that a few times lately. Think people are all looking at life differently, nice to hear something like this."

Paul Guy added: "Acts of kindness, especially like this are worth more than money is!

"It restores our faith in humanity, and that there will always be kind people."

And Margaret Flynn said: "What a lovely thing to do, hope you have lots of good luck in the coming months, your kindness obviously meant the world to this lady. Merry Christmas."
