Glasgow cafe staff save customer who choked on food and 'couldn't breathe'

A young Scots student told how they would have died if it wasn't for the quick actions of staff at a cafe in Glasgow.

Lauren Hardie thanked employees at Rawnchy in Dennistoun after they performed the Heimlich Manoeuvre and saved their life yesterday.

Lauren was visiting the cafe with a family member when they began to choke on their food and couldn't breathe for what "felt like forever", according to Glasgow Live.

Staff members were alerted to the distressing incident by Lauren's sister and three employees sprung to action.

The staff - Poppy, Douglas and Erin - intervened and immediately phoned an ambulance as the team also provided comfort and reassurance.

Lauren posted about the terrifying ordeal online and praised the amazing staff members who saved their life.

They said: "Not my usual kind of post but I have to share my experience with the amazing staff at Rawnchy as I feel it's the least I can do. During my visit yesterday I unfortunately choked while eating and could not breathe for what felt like forever.

"If not for the amazing help of those working there I honestly do not think I would be here and be able to write this.

" I am so grateful that Poppy, Douglas and Erin intervened, phoned me an ambulance and stayed by my side to reassure me the whole way through.

"A special thank you to Douglas who performed the Heimlich Manoeuvre on me and to my sister who was able to alert said staff that I was choking.

"Words will never be enough to thank you all for what you did for me, you should all be so incredibly proud of yourselves and I will never forget how lucky I am."

Lauren added: "If any of you are looking for a small business in Glasgow to support then I encourage you to visit as not only is everything that they create and bake amazing but the staff cannot be faulted. Forever blessed."
