Young Scots driver dies in hospital six days after horror crash on A7 as probe continues

A young motorist has tragically died in hospital after being left critically injured in a horror two car crash.

Mason Mackenzie was badly hurt after his red Seat Ibiza collided with another motor on the A7 near Galashiels at around 9.10pm on December 27.

The 20-year-old was rushed to hospital in Edinburgh where he bravely fought for his life with his family by his side.

But police have confirmed that the young man sadly passed away on Sunday, January 2.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing as police appeal for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to get in touch.

The driver of the other vehicle, a black Seat Ibiza, was unhurt.

Sergeant Mark Banner, of Scottish Borders Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the deceased’s family at this sad time.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and would ask anyone who has not yet come forward with information to get in touch with police.

“We're also keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or motorists with dash-cam footage from around the time of the crash.

“Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting incident 3191 of 27 December, 2021.”
