Cops are appealing for witnesses after a young man was stabbed in the face and head near his home in Greenock.
The 21-year-old was attacked within a close on Gael Street shortly after midnight on Friday, February 19.
Officers believe he disturbed three men who were loitering in the area with the intention of stealing a number of items.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the victim was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment to his painful wounds.
Medics were forced to use a number of staples on a wound dangerously close to his left eye and a further stitch on his head.”
Enquiries remain ongoing to identify the culprits who have not yet been arrested.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "The victim stays within a flat in the close and he disturbed three males who were there possibly to steal items.
"He was struck to the face with a sharp implement, possibly a knife, and to his head.
"The three males then made off.
“The injured man called the emergency services and he was conveyed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he received a number of staples to a wound near his left eye and one to his head.
"We are today urging anyone with information about this incident to contact us as a matter of urgency."
