Young Pirates fan catches a Brewers home run, chucks the ball into the Allegheny River

We’ve seen it too often: A fan catches a home run hit by a visiting player and proceeds to throw the baseball back onto the field. That’s basically been a Cubs (and since adopted by every fanbase) tradition for decades.

But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fan straight up throw a baseball out of the stadium.

That happened on Wednesday.

During the Pittsburgh Pirates’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park, a young Buccos fan made a nifty catch on a home run off the bat of the Brewers’ Trent Grisham. Rather than keep the ball or throw it onto the field, this fan — with zero hesitation — turned around and chucked the ball into the Allegheny River.

That’s a new one.

PNC Park is one of two MLB stadiums that have a splash-down component, so good on this fan for taking advantage of the conveniently located body of water near the stadium.

We can definitely appreciate the creativity.
