Young person under 24 fighting for life with Covid-19 in Irish hospital

A young person under the age of 24 was fighting for life in intensive care after contracting Covid-19, new statistics show.

The incident was notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre in figures released this morning.

They are the eighth patient under the age of 24 to be admitted to ICU with coronavirus here since the start of the outbreak in Ireland.

The exact age, location or gender of the patient has not been released by health officials.

Their current condition is also not known.

The new figures also show that another child between the ages of 5 and 14 has been hospitalised with the killer bug.

In total, just under 100 children under the age of 14 have been brought to hospital with coronavirus since the pandemic began.

And it comes after it emerged last week another person had died in Ireland after contracting Covid-19 abroad.

The sad incident was reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre last Tuesday.
