Young people reveal they struggle to drive to new places without their sat navs

They may know their way around the latest apps and technology, but a huge number of young probably wouldn't know their way around anywhere else, according to research.

A study has revealed a shocking number of young people would not be confident using a traditional map to get to their destinations.

A staggering 97% of 18-24-year-olds surveyed by Leasing Options said that they'd feel stressed if their sat nav or map application stopped working while they drove to a new destination.

And less than 2% of respondents said they'd be confident using just road signs and a traditional paper map to travel to a new destination.

Despite the huge number, 80% admitted that they've still got lost while using their relied-upon technology.

Furthermore, three out of five said that they woud not drive to a new place if they didn't have help from their tech.

As a result of their dependency on digital directions, more than a third of drivers say their sense of direction has gotten worse.

And that number was even larger among those aged over 35 - four out of five of those motorists commented on their diminished sense of direction.

Many say that they don't carry a paper map in their car - fewer than 20% have a physical alternative to the sat nav, and only one in 20 said they'd ever used one at all.

But not everyone in society would be useless in the event of a technological black-out - almost three quarters of drivers aged 65 and over said that they'd have no problem getting somewhere new without a sat nav or map app.
