Young parents who died in car crash named by police

The police have named the young couple who died following a road traffic collision in Ballycastle on Friday evening.

The Co Antrim couple, Owen McMullan, 25, and Brigid Wilkinson, 21, who have three small children, had known each other for more than seven years.

Owen was from Armoy and Brigid, a full time mum, who was from Ballycastle. They died at the scene of the two vehicle crash on Moyarget Road shortly before 5pm on February 12.

Police are asking members of the public to help their investigation and provide information or dashcam footage.

PSNI Constable McKeever said: “The two-vehicle collision took place on the Moyarget Road and involved a blue Honda and silver Ford. It was reported to police just after 4.50pm.

“Sadly, both Brigid and Owen were pronounced dead at the scene. We would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured dash cam footage that could assist our enquiries, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1274 of 12/02/21.”

A female passenger in the second vehicle was taken to the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine where she remains, receiving treatment.

The Moyarget Road has since reopened to traffic.
