Young mum Rachel Elliott takes first steps since being paralysed in horror car crash in Co Donegal

A young Irish mum left paralysed after a horror car crash has taken her first steps since the accident.

Rachel Elliott, 25, from Co Fermanagh, was left unable to walk after the crash in Co Donegal in August last year.

Two of her friends who were in the car, Conall McAleer, 20, and Shiva Devine, 20, died in the collision.

Rachel, 25, survived the crash but lost the use of her legs, and sustained serious injuries to her brain, back and pelvis.

Brothers Conor Brennan, 26, and Tristan Brennan, 19, were also in the car and suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

And now the young mum has taken her first steps since the crash with the help of an Ekso Skeleton suit.

Rachel shared a heartwarming video of her walking in the suit, and also revealed that she planned to take part in a charity skydive over the bank holiday weekend.

She wrote on social media: "As many of you know I'm paralysed and have recently started using the Ekso Skelton suit which lets me walk, which I have not been able to do in nearly 8 months.

Rachel posted the video on social media. (Facebook)

Donegal crash survivor Rachel Elliott blames God for being unable to walk after horror incident

"The No Barriers Foundation is doing a sky dive which I've decided to take part in (which I can't wait to experience).

"In order for me to do the sky dive I need lots of support from my friends and family and my local communities to help me raise money for the No Barriers Foundation."
