Young mum held for gold shop theft
UDON THANI: Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman who allegedly robbed a gold shop in Nong Han district and made off with three gold necklaces worth 97,000 baht.
The robbery took place at the Teerapan 4 gold shop on Monday evening.
Wassana Ngam-lun was apprehended at her house in tambon Sumsao of Phen district on Thursday evening. During questioning, Ms Wassana confessed to robbing the shop. Found in her possession was a BB gun, 48 BB pellets, three baht weight in two gold necklaces, 34,000 baht in cash and a pawn ticket.
On the day of the robbery, she picked up her daughter from kindergarten and parked the car close to the shop leaving her daughter to wait in the car, officers said.
Cops swoop on pickpocket ring
crime: Police have rounded up 15 Vietnamese nationals accused of pickpocketing and preying on people visiting Bangkok's major tourist venues.
The suspects were detained at a flat in Din Daeng district. Some of them were found to have entered the country using fake passports issued 30 years ago. The Vietnamese suspects stole in a well-trained and methodical manner. One member distracted victims as another picked their pocket, while yet another passed stolen valuables to other members who then concealed them.
According to police, they were active at major tourist sites including the Grand Palace, Sanam Luang, Maharat Pier, Platinum shopping centre, Pratunam area and the Siam Paragon shopping centre.
Group wants end to pyramid scams
Fraud: A network fighting pyramid schemes yesterday called on the Justice Ministry to step up efforts to eliminate fraudulent investment scams.
Samart Jenchaijitawanit, president of the Stop Money Game Association, submitted a five-point demand to the Justice Ministry following an increase in new fraud cases.
He was accompanied by dozens of people who lost money in scams ranging from digital money investments to sweet potato farming. One of the demands urged the ministry to increase penalties for those found guilty of deceiving people. Another called on the ministry to act as a core agency in rehabilitating victims.
Police probe death of Dutchman
PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: An investigation is under way to find out why a Dutch tourist fell to his death from the rooftop of a dormitory in Hua Hin on Thursday afternoon.
The body of the 68-year-old, whose name was withheld, was found face-down along a narrow path next to the four-storey building on Naeb Khehat Road in tambon Hua Hin, according to Pol Lt Col Naruepanat Assadindecha, an investigator at Hua Hin police station. Police examined the rooftop and found no signs of a struggle. A security camera recording showed him falling to the ground at 4.26pm.
Wassana Ngarmlua, 50, the dormitory housekeeper, said the Dutchman was a regular customer and visited Hua Hin every year. Police were investigating whether it was an accident, murder or suicide.
