Young Mohamed Salah fan says broken nose ‘worth it’ to meet his favourite Liverpool player

An 11-year-old Liverpool fan who broke his nose chasing after Mo Salah has said it was worth it for a chance to meet his favourite player.

Schoolboy Lewis Fowler knocked himself unconscious while trying to keep up with Salah's car as he left Liverpool Football Club’s Melwood training ground.

Tearful young Louis posed for a picture with Salah with a bloodied nose which was later re-set at Alder Hey children's hospital where he shared his story with staff and patients.

The young football fan revealed Salah turned around and drove to his front garden to check he was ok after the injury and playfully quizzed him about why he was “running so fast”.

Lewis said he had been trying to meet the football star all summer (GMB)

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Lewis said: “When he drove out of the training ground I thought I could get a picture with him and when he was driving I ran, without looking.

“When I looked to the side this lamppost was in my face and I just bounced off it.

“I had a really bloody nose and someone took me back to my front garden and then I just saw Salah’s car by our house. I was still spaced out and I didn’t really know what was happening, but I knew it was Salah.

“I gave him a hug and we got a picture together and it was amazing.”

The youngster lives near the Champions League winner’s training ground and has spent “all summer” trying to see Salah, his stepfather Joe Cooper added.

Mr Cooper said: “He’s such a superstar, I was just so shocked. It was really congested outside the training ground, so for him to turn his car round and check is just such a nice gesture.”

Lewis said he has an appointment to get his nose reset and he was in pain after the accident, but said it was worth it to see his favourite player.

He added: “I think he’s my favourite now, I think he’s always been my favourite, but even more now. To be honest I’m quite glad [it happened]. I think it was worth it to meet Mohammed Salah.”
