Young man with autism beaten up while out walking in Donegal

A young man with autism was severely beaten up in an unprovoked attack while out on his evening walk in Co Donegal.

The shocking incident happened in Stranorlar just after 8pm last night.

Greg O'Donnell was out for his walk when he was set upon by at least two men who jumped out of a black car and punched him a number of times.

He was left with a number of facial injuries as a result of the attack.

The attackers jumped back in the car and fled the scene.

His outraged brother Aodh has appealed for anybody with any information on the attack to contact gardai.

Aodh revealed how Greg was already in a delicate place as the family gather for their late father's third anniversary which occurs today.

He said "As most of you know my brother Greg is autistic and leads a very simple life and bothers nobody. Greg was assaulted this evening.

"He was out for a walk minding his own business as usual when some scumbag got out of a black car and went up and punched him three times on his nose.

"Apparently this abuse has been going on for some time in a form of verbal abuse. But this evening they took it to a new level.

"It happened in Stranorlar across from Andie's supermarket. Greg has enough on his plate and it's our father's third anniversary tomorrow we really don't need this."

Gardai have confirmed they are investigating the cowardly attack.

"Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault that occurred on Main Street, Stranorlar, County Donegal at approximately 8 pm on Tuesday 10th of May 2022.

"No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing."
