Young man who tragically died in Kerry crash was about to become a father

A man who tragically lost his life in a crash near near the Cork-Kerry was about to become a father, Cork Beo reports.

Frank Pilkington, 34, who was living in Firies village, a 15-minute drive from Killarney, died following a single-vehicle crash on the N71 Kenmare to Bantry Road at Drominhassig on Wednesday.

The soon-to-be father was taken to Cork University Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Following the devastating news, tributes have flooded in from Frank's heartbroken family and friends.

One friend said: "Heartbreaking to hear of the passing of a lovely young Man Frank always had a lovely smile and always would stop for a chat, our Deepest Condolences to the Pilkington family may Frank Rest in Peace, our thoughts and prayers are with you all."

Another said: "I’m so so sorry for your loss. I will be thinking of you all and I pray Frank and Nanny Rosie give you all the strength to get through this. Ger, my heart goes out to you."

A third said: "Rest in forever peace Frank and look over Lisa and your baby and all your family."

Frank will be sadly missed by his heartbroken mother, siblings and his partner and by the "many people whose lives he touched with his kindness, love and compassion throughout his life." Messages of condolences can be left for the family here.

His funeral will take place at St Gertrude's Church Firies on Monday morning, February 20th, at 11am.

Gardai are appealing for any potential witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Kerry attended the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 6 pm on Wednesday evening, 15th February 2023. The collision occurred on the N71, Kenmare to Bantry Road at Drominassig, Co.Kerry.

"The driver of the car, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Cork University Hospital where he later passed away from his injuries. A post-mortem will now take place in due course.

"A technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision investigators is set to take place this morning. The road is currently closed, with local diversions currently in place.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and any road users with video footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
