Young man tragically dies after horror Dublin crash on busy Ballycoolin road

One person has died following a two-vehicle collision in north Dublin on Wednesday evening.

A motorcyclist in his 30s was killed when the bike he was riding collided with a car on the Mitchelstown Road in Ballycoolin at around 5pm near the Northwest Business Park.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Connolly Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.

The driver of the car was treated on the road by emergency services which was closed for a time but has since reopened.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene and officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the Mitchelstown Road in Ballycoolin, Dublin 15 yesterday evening, Wednesday 14th April at approximately 5pm.

"The two vehicle collision involved a car and a motorcycle at the junction of Northwest Business Park.

"The driver of the motorcycle, a male aged in his 30s, was fatally injured during the collision. The Coroner was notified and his body was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where a post-mortem will take place in due course. The driver of the car was treated at the scene by Emergency Services."

She added: "Garda Forensic Collision Investigators attended the scene and the Mitchelstown Road was closed for a period of time. The road has since reopened.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Any road users who were travelling on the Mitchelstown Road between 4.30pm and 5.30pm yesterday and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
