Young man taken to hospital after falling from the cliffs at Cullercoats

A young man has been taken to hospital with injuries after falling from a cliff.

Emergency services were called out to the coast in North Tyneside on Saturday night after the incident was reported to the Coastguard.

The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade also attended to assist paramedics following reports that a person had fallen around 10ft down a cliff and suffered multiple injuries.

A spokesman for the TVLB said: "The location of the casualty was initially unclear and was thought to be somewhere in the Cullercoats or Tynemouth area.

"After a short search the casualty was located on the field between Cullercoats and Tynemouth, after being helped up the cliff by their friends.

"The casualty was then moved to an ambulance before being taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called to 9.03pm to reports that a person had fallen from height at the south end of Cullercoats Bay.

"We sent two Hazardous Area Response Teams and one crew and we took one young male to Cramlington Hospital."
