'Young man' taken to hospital after being found unconscious near Coatbridge train station

A 'young man' has been taken to hospital after he was found unconscious near Coatbridge Sunnyside train station.

Emergency crews scrambled to Gartsherrie Road where the youth was discovered at around 4:20pm this afternoon.

Local reports claim the youth had been assaulted though this has not been confirmed by police.

A spokeswoman for the force confirmed he was taken to hospital and said "enquiries are ongoing."

Glasgow Live reported earlier that trains were no longer calling at Coatbridge Sunnyside railway station due to the emergency incident. Disruption is expected until 9pm.

ScotRail said: "Train services are currently unable to call at Coatbridge Sunnyside, while the emergency services deal with an incident near the railway.

"Blairhill or Coatdyke are the nearest stations."
