Govan High fight: Young man stabbed and another injured in large scale disturbance on school grounds

A 20-year-old man is in hospital with a stab wound and facial injury following a disturbance involving a large group of young people on school grounds in Govan.

Another young man, aged 20, sustained an injury and is being treated for a laceration on his arm.

The fight broke out around 7pm at Govan High School, Ardnish Street, and police were called to the scene.

Both injured men were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where they remain in treatment.

Detectives say they’re still working to find out what caused the fight, and are gathering CCTV footage for more information.

Detective Constable Alyson Dowds said: “This incident happened around 7pm on a warm, sunny evening and I’m sure plenty of people will have been out and about making the most of the weather. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have heard or seen anything to contact us.

“We know a number of people were within the local high school and I’m appealing to them to contact us directly.  Two men have been injured and we need to establish exactly what and why this has happened.  If anyone has any information, please do pass it on to us.”

Anyone with info is asked to contact Govan Police Station on 101 using incident number 3944 of 21 April 2019. Info can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
