Young man slashed with machete in terrifying street attack

A young man was slashed with a machete in the street Oldham.

Emergency services were scrambled to a home on Equitable Street following reports a 21-year-old man had been stabbed.

The victim was walking along Littlemoor Lane towards Shewsbury Street when he was confronted by a man, armed with a machete, on Tuesday, April 21.

Police said the young man's hand was slashed. He then ran along a path beside a block of flats on Littlemoor Lane, towards Huddersfield Road.

The victim was taken to hospitalm where he remains.

His injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

The attacker was wearing dark clothing. Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Constable Deborah Green of GMP’s Oldham District said: “This was a nasty assault and the victim is lucky that the injuries sustained are not more serious.

“While there is a limited description of the offender, the incident happened in a residential area during good weather and while it was still light.

“We therefore believe there are people who witnessed this attack or may have daschcam or CCTV footage that can assist us. I’d urge them to get in touch.”
