Young man left with serious head injuries after 'despicable' gang attack

A man who 'wouldn't hurt a fly' was left in hospital with serious head injuries after being attacked by three men

Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a man being attacked by three men on Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry, at 7am on Saturday, September 11.

Once Merseyside Police arrived at the scene, between the junction with Green Lawn and Byrne Avenue, they found a man with serious head injuries.

It was reported the young man had been assaulted by a group of three men who made off in an unknown direction.

North West Ambulance Service were also in attendance and took the man to hospital.

He has since been discharged.

The man who was attacked was about to devote his life to serving in the Army, and "wouldn’t hurt a fly" according to a post on Facebook.

Police have now issued an appeal to find the men responsible, who are described as white, aged in their 20s, with long hair and dark clothing.

Detective Inspector Tom Clarke said: “This was an appalling attack leaving a man injured, and we are working hard to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

"If you were in the Old Chester Road area in the early hours of Saturday morning, witnessed the incident or have any dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage locally which might identify the suspects, please let us know.

"Such despicable behaviour has no place in Merseyside and we'll do all we can to put those responsible before the courts."
