Young man killed in Dublin Pike crash in Co Cork named as Brendan O'Connor

A man killed in a crash on Sunday morning has been named locally.

Brendan O'Connor, in his 20s, died around 2.45am on Glenville Road at Ballincrokig, Dublin Pike, on the northside of Cork city.

He was driving alone when his car hit a wall.

Tributes have been paid on social media to the popular young man.

One man posted on Facebook: "I'm in absolute bits.

"Spending 4/5 nights a week together for the last 4 years really is after making me realise how much I looked forward to spending time with you because of your uplifting, positive personality."

Councillor Kenneth O'Flynn told Cork Beo : "Both myself and the community are extremely saddened by this.

"The family are well-liked and respected in the community.

"We need a full re-examining of the road network in the area. I am lobbying with my fellow councillors to slow down traffic in the area.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the community at this time."
