Young man in his 20s dies and two injured in fatal crash near Dundrum, Co Tipperary

A young man has died and two others were injured in a horror single-vehicle crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The tragic accident happened just before 5:30am on the R661 Dundrum to Thurles road, approximately one kilometre outside the village of Dundrum in Co Tipperary.

The three young men, all understood to be in their 20s were travelling in a 4X4 when it left the road.

A spokesman for An Garda Siochana said: "Two were removed by ambulance to South Tipperary General Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"The third man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Garda forensic collision investigators and scenes of crime officers are currently examining the crash site.

"The road is closed and local diversions are in place. The local Coroner will be notified.

"Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them and are particularly appealing to anyone who travelled on the road in the early hours of Sunday morning to come forward.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Tipperary Garda Station 062-80670 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."

AA Roadwatch said: "The Thurles Rd (R661) will remain closed between Tipperary town and Thurles just north of Dundrum due to a fatal collision.

"It will be closed until at least midday. Local diversions are in place."
