Young man impaled on iron fence cut free by firefighters - he suffered serious injuries

A young man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after getting impaled on an iron fence.

Emergency services were called to Dean Road in Handforth, on the Stockport/Cheshire Border just after midnight on Sunday.

A metal railing pierced through the 20-year-old's leg.

He was cut free by firefighters before being taken to hospital.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue said in a statement: "Shortly after midnight firefighters were dispatched to reports of a man trapped on a fence on Dean Road, Handforth.

"On arrival the crew found a 20-year-old man whose leg was impaled on an iron fence railing.

"Firefighters used electronic cutting equipment to remove the railing and free the casualty.

"The man was then passed to the care of paramedics.



"The crew were in attendance at the incident for approximately one hour."

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.01am on Sunday and sent two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle.

"A male was taken to a major trauma centre with serious injuries."
