A young man has died and another is in hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Longford.
It happened on the Cullyfad Road at Coolnahinch around 12.30am on Friday.
The man who died, aged in his 20s, was a passenger in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been removed to a mortuary, where a post-mortem will be conducted.
The driver, also aged in his 20s, was taken to Mullingar Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The road has been closed and local diversions are in place.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to gardai.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 335 0570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
