Young man dies after 'taking ill' at Scots beauty spot

A man has died after falling ill at a Scots beauty spot.

The 30-year-old man became unwell while on Turnhouse Hill in Pentland Hills Regional Park, near Penicuik, Midlothian on Sunday morning.

Emergency services raced to the scene when the alarm was raised just after 10am.

It is understood two members of the public came to his aid.

The man was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to assist emergency service partners after receiving a report that a person had taken ill on Turnhourse Hill, near Penicuik, at around 10.05am on Sunday. 

"The person was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance."

NHS Lothian have been contacted for comment.
