Young man dies after being found unresponsive in Bristol city centre flat

A young man died after being found unresponsive at a Bristol city centre flat, an inquest has heard.

Leonard Loveridge, 20, was confirmed dead on December 16, 2021, at a flat on College Green. An inquest hearing at the Coroner's Court in Flax Bourton last Thursday (March 24) heard that Mr Loveridge had been out drinking alcohol.

The inquest records state: "On 16 December 16, 2021, he was found unresponsive. CPR was unsuccessful and Mr Loveridge was confirmed deceased at a flat in College Green."

Assistant Coroner Debbie Rookes ruled a conclusion that Mr Loverdige, who was from Lawrence Weston, had taken his own life but that his intention was unclear. His inquest had previously opened on January 12, 2022.

Also in an inquest last week, a coroner found that 19-year-old died in hospital due to the "acute toxic effects of MDMA".

The inquest heard that Joelle Welsh went out with her friends to a Bristol nightclub on July 24 last year, where she consumed an unknown quantity of the class A drug. She then became acutely unwell, the inquest was told, and she was taken to the Bristol Royal Infirmary at 4am on July 25.

The student was admitted to the ICU, but her condition deteriorated and she died in the city centre hospital that same day. A post-mortem examination confirmed her death was due to the acute toxic effects of MDMA.
