Young man dead and woman critical after horror crash in Co Wexford as gardai shut road

A young man has died and a woman is fighting for her life after a horror crash in Wexford this evening.

The man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision in Ballintore, Ferns at 5:20pm.

He was the sole occupant of one car involved.

The female driver, mid 50s, of the second vehicle and sole occupant of the car was seriously injured and has been removed from the scene to St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin where her condition is described as critical.

A garda spokesperson said: "The road is currently closed and the services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested. Local diversions are in place. The road will remain closed overnight and the examination of the scene will begin tomorrow morning at first light.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Enniscorthy Garda Station on (053) 9233534, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
