One young man has been charged by Gardai after an elderly pensioner was brutally stabbed in a shocking Dublin attack yesterday.
Officers rushed to the River Road area of Ashtown at around 11:40am on Wednesday after the alarm was raised about the horror stabbing.
At the scene, they found the victim in his early 70s who had received a stab wound to his leg.
The elderly man was treated at the scene by ambulance crew but was taken to hospital for further treatment where he's recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
Investigating Gardai recovered a knife from the horrific scene and arrested a man in his 20s nearby.
The man was detained at Cabra Garda Station and has since been charged in relation to the investigation and will appear before Blanchardstown District Court.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We have arrested and charged a male following a stabbing incident that is reported to have occurred in the River Road area of Ashtown, Dublin 7, on 15/07/2020 at approximately 11:40am.
"Gardaí responded to reports that a man, aged in his early 70s, had received stab wound to his leg.
"The man was treated at the scene by ambulance crew and was taken to hospital for further treatment."
He added: "His injuries are described as non life threatening."
He continued: "Gardai arrested a man, aged in his 20s, close to the scene and a knife has been recovered.
"The man was detained at Cabra Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
"He has since been charged and in relation to this investigation and is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court."
