A young man has been arrested after €161,000 worth of cocaine was seized at a home in Co Laois.
The suspect, in his 20, is being quizzed following the seizure which was carried out on Saturday.
Gardai raided the house in Portarlington and discovered the drugs as well as €7,000 in cash, mobile phones and drug related equipment.
The young man was arrested at the property and remains in custody at Portlaoise Garda Station.
A spokesman said: "Gardaí have seized €161,000 worth of cocaine (pending analysis) and arrested a man, aged in his early 20s, following a search of a house in the Patrick Street area of Portarlington that was carried out on 25/07/2020.
"During the course of the search over €7,000 in cash, mobile phones and other drug related paraphernalia was discovered and seized.
"The arrested man is currently detained at Portlaoise Garda Station under Section of 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
"Investigations are ongoing."
