A young man was arrested at Dublin Airport last week after Revenue officers found a massive amount of MDMA concealed in clothing.

The bust was made in the midst of routine profiling and resulted in 2.4kg of the illegal substance being confiscated.

It is understood the 22-year-old is an Irish citizen who had just arrived in Ireland from Brussels, and officials estimate the value of the November 18 seizure to be around €143,000.

The man was taken into custody by gardai at the airport and appeared in court today, November 25, however, no further information is available at this point.

A statement published by the Revenue said: “Last week, as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers seized approximately 2.4kgs of MDMA valued at almost €143,000 at Dublin Airport.

“The illegal drugs were found concealed within the clothing of a passenger that had arrived into Ireland from Brussels.

“Yesterday, (25/11/2021), and following investigations, the passenger, a 22-year-old man who is an Irish passport holder, was arrested by An Garda Siochána and subsequently appeared in Court in connection with this seizure.

“This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.

Officers are now appealing to businesses or members of the public who have any information regarding smuggling, to contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
