Young man, 20, killed in horror late-night stabbing in Ballybough, Dublin

A murder probe has been launched after a young man was attacked and stabbed to death in Dublin late last night.

The brutal stabbing took place at a flat complex in Ballybough House at around 10pm.

The scene remains sealed off this morning and a forensic examination will take place later on Thursday, Dublin Live reports.

It is understood a group of young people were hanging out in the area when a row broke out.

A young man, 20, was stabbed in the upper body during this altercation.

Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was rushed to hospital but he died there a short time later.

Gardai confirmed on Thursday morning a child has been arrested in connection with the investigation and is being detained at Mountjoy Garda Station.

Investigating officers are now working to identify attackers behind the vicious murder. 

They are appealing to witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and Emergency Services attended to the man and he was removed to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.

"One youth, has since been arrested by investigating Gardaí and he is currently detained under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Mountjoy Garda Station.  The scene which is currently preserved for technical and forensic examination.

"The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem will take place in due course.  An incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station.

"Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the area of Ballybough House, who may have witnessed the incident or can assist Gardaí to contact them at Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 6668600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow."
