Young Larkhall golfers enjoy a year of success

Talented young golfers from Larkhall Golf Club have had a terrific year of success.

Last year the club re-started their junior section, which had been closed for around 10 years as they were struggling to attract children to the sport.

However this year the junior section has gone from strength to strength, with 11 children joining.

This year some of the youngsters participated in the Golf Sixes – a new competition launched by Scottish Golf which aims to get more kids into golf.

The Golf Sixes League involves quicker six-hole matches against other clubs in a fun ‘Texas Scramble’ format – a great way of building confidence among new players.

And the matches are designed to create a sense of belonging in junior sections, while also forging a respect for practice among young players.

The Larkhall team were drawn in a league with Drumpellier, Wishaw and Hollandbush.

Having won the first two games they then went on to host the other clubs for game three and won again.

Jim Meikle, junior convenor at the club, said:“The kids are absolutely buzzing and it’s an amazing achievement for the kids and the club.

“I am pleased to report that we won the third match and have qualified for the Scottish Golf finals at Gleneagles on September 8.”
