Young Knights forward Pasami Saulo suffers horror injury

INJURY: Pasami Saulo

YOUNG forward Pasami Saulo may have played his last game of the season after suffering a suspected broken and dislocated ankle in Newcastle's NSW Cup win against Canberra on Saturday.

Saulo was taken to hospital by ambulance - and play was held up for about 20 minutes - after his left leg was trapped under a tackle.

The 22-year-old was in obvious distress as he cradled a left ankle and foot pointing in an unnatural direction.

Saulo had been named in Newcastle's NRL squad for what would have been his 16th NRL game. Instead he dropped down to reserve grade to accommodate the return of experienced back-rower Lachlan Fitzgibbon.

The injury is a setback to Saulo's hopes of establishing himself as a regular in Newcastle's engine-room rotation this season.

Newcastle's other injury concern was winger Brayden Musgrove, who was unable to finish the NRL game against Canberra because of a rib problem.

If Musgrove is ruled out of Friday's clash with the Tigers, the Knights will be sweating on the availability of Hymel Hunt (hamstring) and Edrick Lee (foot).
