Tributes have been paid to the Irishman who died while on holidays in Spain on Friday.
Gerard McMahon, 24, is believed to have drowned in a swimming pool in the Costa Del Sol while on a trip with friends.
Gerard, a member of the Defence Forces, was from the Killaloe area of Co Clare - with the community of Ogonnelloe in deep shock.
Local Councillor Joe Cooney said it was "devastating news for the community and for the family".
The young man hailed from a big GAA family and the local club paid tribute to Gerard who played for the club right up through the age groups.
A spokesperson for Ogonnelloe GAA said: "It is with profound shock and sadness that we learned today of the sudden passing of our young member and friend, Gerard McMahon.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents Pat and Carmel, his sister Bríd, and all the McMahon family at this extremely difficult time.
"The club met with the family this afternoon to express our condolences and to offer our services in any way possible over the coming days. It was the expressed wishes of the McMahon family that the scheduled matches over the weekend should proceed as normal, so we will abide by those wishes.
"But, as a mark of respect to Gerard and the McMahon family, there will be no activity in the club grounds over the weekend and there will also be a minute's silence observed before the matches this weekend."
Funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed as efforts are made to repatriate the body.
