Warning strong language

A youth referee has revealed he was verbally abused by both players and a manager during a recent youths game, adding that he was told after the match that a group would "wait for him in the carpark."

Harry McCann told Claire Byrne live that during a match, one youth player referred to him and a f*****g f****t, while after the game, a manager referred to him as a f****** cabbage.

"Those were the two comments that sparked it....it was quite an interesting statement but both still very serious," he told the RTE chat show.

Harry McCann revealed he'd received abuse from both players and the referee at a recent youths game (RTE)

Asked if he felt threatened following the verbal abuse, he said:

"Yeah, I had people saying to me afterwards that they'd wait for me in the car park afterwards, people being very aggressive, but it does happen, and it continues to happen."
