Young Irish boy pens heartbreaking letter thanking local rape crisis charity for helping his family

People are praising a young boy after he wrote a "beautiful" thank you letter to a local rape crisis centre that helped his family.

The child penned the note to the Donegal Rape Crisis Centre after the charity helped him, his mother and his sister recently.

He wished staff at the centre a happy new year and thanked them for their invaluable help.

The boy said: "We lost a lot of items in our old flat due to mould. My old bed and other things were all destroyed.

“Mummy is trying her best to make sure we have a clean and healthy environment. You have helped my family a lot through the past couple [of] months.

“Mum has gone without any money to make sure we have a home and food in our presses.

“Please tell everyone how grateful we are for your help. Thank you for helping my mum with everything and thank you for making us a happy family.”

A photo of the letter was posted on the Donegal Rape Crisis Centre Facebook page, with people praising the young man for his poignant words.

A member of staff working at the centre wrote: "Dear all, just wanted to share this beautiful letter from client's son, the thanks is not due to me or my wonderful team but to you our community who have responded and wrapped your arms around a vulnerable family.

"No words are enough but this wonderful young man speaks better than I ever could."

Members of the local community praised the boy for his "touching letter".

One person said: "So touching. Such a humble child being so thankful and grateful for the simple things in life. I wish them well."

Another wrote: "A lovely letter of thanks from a child."

A third added: "Well done Marina and team!! Lovely letter of thankfulness!!"

While a fourth said: "A credit to him mum. And Well done Marina & team."
