Young homeless woman doused in petrol and dragged through fire saved by hero strangers

A young woman survived a horrific attack in which she was dragged through a fire while sleeping rough on the streets, and has launched an appeal to find the heroes who saved her.

Mairead Soledad is looking for a woman called Sherrie and her daughter, who saved her from a terrifying ordeal in 2020 which also saw her doused in petrol.

Fortunately the pair happened to be driving past during the attack two years ago in Hove, East Sussex, when Mairead was living on the streets with her beloved dog Solo.

Writing on social media, the young woman said: "I had petrol poured over me and was dragged through a fire when I was on the street.

"There was a lady and her child driving past and they saved me. They took me to their home and let me shower and fed me.

“They then helped me get into a hostel and get support, which is in turn how I ended up finally off the street. It’s been almost two years since I’ve been placed in accommodation and I’ve been wanting to try and locate certain people that really saved me.

“I just really want to thank them and let them know that I’m alive and safe.”

The appeal was successful and Mairead said she "couldn't be happier and more thankful", adding that she hoped to meet up to thank them in person.

She said that she is proof that anyone is capable of turning their life around no matter how bad things might get, highlighting the scary moments she went through while sleeping rough.

"After my second winter in a tent I’d fully lost any hope," she said.

"It’s mad to be where I am now. I just want to take any little silver linings I can and give back where I can.

“I’m determined to help those still living in that hell.”
