Young Glasgow mum's murder to be investigated 25 years on from flat killing

One of the UK's leading criminologists is set to investigate the murder of a young Glaswegian mum, 25 years on from her death.

David Wilson has begun a new series of Crime Files, broadcasted on BBC Scotland. This season, he will be focusing on cold cases, deaths that have been left unsolved over the years.

David is focusing primarily on Scotland’s Cold Cases and in this episode he and his guests look at the issue of the country’s unsolved investigations into murdered sex workers.

In this series, David is joined in the studio by resident Forensic Scientist Helen Meadows who dissects the murder of Tracey Wylde.

Tracey was a young mum from Glasgow, who also took up sex work during an epidemic of drug crimes and deaths. The mother was murdered in her flat in 1997.

Tracey’s case, like many sex workers before her, went cold but Helen will look at the crucial DNA evidence left behind that eventually led to her killer’s arrest, over 20 years after her death.

David Wilson's Crime Files: Cold Cases will return to BBC Scotland on Tuesday, November 8 at 10pm. You can also catch up on previous episodes on BBC iPlayer.
