Young Glasgow dad dies suddenly as tributes paid to 'one of a kind' Celtic fan

Tributes have been paid to a young Glasgow dad who died suddenly last week.

Michael Beaton, known as Mick, passed away just days before his 28th birthday leaving his family and friends completely devastated. It's understood Mick, who was from the east end of the city, was a freelance electrician for the BBC and worked backstage on a number of shows including River City.

The dad-of-one was a Celtic supporter and fans erupted into a round of applause in tribute to him during the 28th minute of their 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk at Celtic Park on Tuesday night.

Loved ones also released green, white and orange balloons and let off fireworks in his memory at a local park on what would have been his 28th birthday last Thursday.

Dylan Paris said: “It was a privilege to call you a friend Mick Beaton. One of the best souls I ever met. Never forget all the good memories I have with you, miss you always.”

Dylan Gauley said: “No words can describe the kind of person you were. Mick Beaton, fly high brother.”

Last Wednesday Marc Houston wrote: "Not going to try and put into words how everyone is feeling just now after the devastating loss we have all felt over the last few days. No words or actions can begin to describe how much Michael Beaton meant to so many people."

James Hosie wrote: “Sat waiting up on Mick Beaton texting me all yesterday to bam me up on the Rangers score, just miss the bamming each other up constantly about the football. Was only last week you ripped through me for that 7-1. Well I know for sure he will be up there laughing at me the now for putting this up, but it’s the small things that mean a lot. Love you brother and fly high.”

Ryan Anderson said: "I knew Mick Beaton from Ibiza always had a smile on his face, up for a laugh and a gentleman. Only bumped into him few weeks ago in Glasgow at Swedish House Mafia. Another reminder that life’s too short be mindful as you never know the last time you will see someone. Thoughts go out to all Mick’s close family and friends RIP."

Conor Mcdowall added: “Rest easy brother, will miss you forever.”

In a statement sent to the Record, a spokesperson for BBC River City said: “We were very saddened to hear about the passing of Michael so early in his career and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
