Young girl, six, rushed to hospital after being given amphetamine by another child

A six-year-old girl was hospitalised after a child gave her a pill to swallow that turned out to be a type of amphetamine.

Samantha Green was playing in the village of Church, near Accrington, when she was handed the 'mysterious' pill by a girl said to be of similar age.

LancsLive reported that she was then told to swallow the pill - and a short time later she was rushed to hospital.

Samantha was taken to A&E and had to stay in hospital overnight where she had the drug flushed out of her system.

Samantha's mum, Stephanie Green, said: "Around 4pm [on Sunday] my daughter's friend came and told me my daughter had taken a tablet. When I asked my daughter about it she became very sleepy and drowsy.

"I called an ambulance and it took her to hospital. Once there they said it was Dextroamphetamine.

"She was kept in overnight and monitored. She's home now and fine after her stats dropped all night."

Samantha has now returned home after hospital and is said to be doing fine.

Stephanie, who says she has been left horrified, scared and angry what happened.

Stephanie continued: "It was a horrible incident."

The incident has been reported to the police.

Dextroamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant and amphetamine that is prescribed for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy.

It is also used as an athletic performance and cognitive enhancer, and recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant.
