Young girl saw 'blood everywhere' after crash before teen stepped in

A 'heroic' teenage boy stepped in to help a little girl after an accident with a quad bike on Derby Park in Bootle.

Olly Wallace, from Bootle, was in the park with his cousin when he saw a little girl accidentally rev a quadbike that her sister had been using. The young girl ended up going into the bandstand in the park and hitting her head.

Olly decided to stay with the little girl as they waited over an hour for an ambulance. He spoke to the girl about a range of topics including school to her hobbies.

The young girl's family then took her to Alder Hey where she is said to have received stitches and is now recovering. Olly has now been praised by both his own family and the young girl's family for the help he offered.

Olly's mum, Laura Wallace, told the ECHO about how proud she is, with the teen already having the responsibility of being his younger brother's carer when he's not in school. She said: "Our Olly went to the park with his cousin to play and he was near the bandstand when he saw a family with the little girl on the front of a quad bike with her older sister behind her.

"He saw her turn the key on the quadbike off and then the three-year-old turned it and accidentally revved it and shot right into the railings of the bandstand. Olly ran straight over and he said he saw blood everywhere but kept telling her 'it's okay, it's okay'.

"Her mum was hysterical, she was really distraught but he just kept reassuring them. He phoned me to say he was fine but something had happened in the park.

"I was babysitting at the time so I couldn't get to the park myself but my sister lives opposite the park so I phoned her and she went right over with blankets and drinks. She even said it was dreadful but Olly was talking to the little girl about school, her sister and they were talking about what her favourite subject was at school and the parrot she had painted in art, what school she went to, just keeping her preoccupied.

"He took the quad home for them because the ambulance waiting time was over an hour so the family took her to Alder Hey. A bit later in the night, we spoke to the family to make sure she was alright as well."
