Young girl rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being savaged by dog

A young girl has been seriously injured after she was attacked by a dog in Co Donegal, Ireland on Friday.

The child was attacked by the pet in Buncrana at around 11.30am and the dog has since been destroyed.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene and she was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment.

Her injuries are described as serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident where a female child was injured by a dog in Buncrana, Co Donegal at approximately 11.30am on Friday 30th July 2021.

The dog was destroyed ("irishphotos@mirror.co.uk" )

"The child was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital with serious but what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

"The dog was handed over to the dog warden.

"Enquiries ongoing."

Just last week a young boy was hospitalised with serious injuries after an attack by a dog in Co Carlow.

The child, understood to be six years of age, was attacked by the pet at around 7.30pm.

He was airlifted to Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The dog, which is believed to be a pitbull-type animal, has since been destroyed.
