Young girl rushed to hospital after dramatic ditch fall rescue at Scots beauty spot

A young girl has been rushed to hospital after falling into a ditch near Dean Castle in Kilmarnock.

A major emergency services operation was launched around 5.20pm on Tuesday after the alarm was raised.

Police, paramedics and two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews raced to the scene following reports of a young person in difficulty.

Emergency lighting was put in place near the historic castle to allow rescuers to get to work.

The girl, whose age is not currently known, was given first aid at the scene before being handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

She was taken to hospital for ‘precautionary checks’.

It is not currently known whether she suffered any serious injuries.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance late on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 5.20pm on Tuesday, February 16 to reports of a young person in difficulty near Dean Castle, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where firefighters assisted the casualty, who had fallen down a ditch, and administered first aid.

"The young person was handed into the care of paramedics and taken to hospital for precautionary checks."

Police Scotland confirmed they were also in attendance.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 17:17 on Tuesday 16 February to attend an incident at Dean Park Castle.

"A range of resources were sent to the scene and one girl was transported to Crosshouse Hospital."
